Use this rule, the more and more you apply make-up to cover your blemishes it is only going to make it worse!! By adding "so much" or "caking it on" is only going to draw peoples eyes to that spot (and also your own). Another thing, don't pop/squeeze/touch any blemishes as this can make it worse - could even leave a scar.
Lets Talk Make-Up Products
When buying make-up check the labels for "Non-Comedogenic" this means it will less likely cause a reaction - which means not make it any worse then what it already is. Non-Comedogenic will help with not clogging pores, causing inflammation and it also reduce oil and bacteria buildup that leads to acne. Another thing to search for is "Hypoallergenic" and "Fragrance Free" this will also assist in to reduce and further irritation. If unsure ask a dermatologist for what works best for your type of skin.
What You'll Need:
- Primer (preferably a green one) or a green colour corrector
- Foundation, concealer, powder
- a small make-up brush
1. So start off with cleansing, toning and moisturizing (maybe one that helps with blemish). If you have a basic skin care routine - sometimes this alone can clear up acne. SO keep it up on washing your face 2x a day, especially taking your make-up off before bed - NO EXCEPTIONS!! I have heard that wearing make-up to bed can cause pre-mature ageing - now we don't want that do we girls?
2. Perfect your base - by this I mean, apply a primer that is green (I know, sounds weird!) but the colour green corrects redness (see below blog about colour correctors) this step will help a lot, to when it comes to applying concealer over the top. If you don't have a primer that is green, just use your normal primer and apply a green colour corrector over red spots on your face.
3. Depending on what foundation you use - Mineral Powder or Liquid, follow the appropriate steps to apply (Mineral - concealer and colour corrector before applying foundation. Liquid - colour corrector before foundation then concealer on top) But this step needs to be broken down a little, first off when you are applying concealer over the pimples get a little brush (make sure it is clean) and dab a little bit of concealer on top of the pimple, blend it in with the brush by lightly tapping the top.
4. Sealing the foundation - this step is really only for people who use liquid foundations, but you can seal with mineral powder foundation - just try not to use much as it will change the colour (so you might have a perfect base and one little orange spot - we also don't want that!!). So with that little brush place a little bit of powder onto the top of it. Tap the pimple lightly - now you will notice it almost disappears!! Try not to apply too much as this is when it will get "cakey". Its important to apply a little bit of powder as this will help hold the concealer onto it - should last all day.
Most importantly keep in mind that when it comes to acne there is NO absolute way in to make is disapear with make-up (us make-up artists don't have a magic wand!!) but we can make it appear less red/less visable.
